A flue is a bespoke duct to carry out this process by normally discharging the Products of Combustion (POCs) at a high and safe level away from any potential inhalation or ingestion by the public. These flues are designed to be a certain height under regulations, must comply with local planning requirements.
The Regulations covering this type of system are:
The 3rd Edition of the 1956 Clean Air Act, Chimney Heights Memorandum, the only stipulation being the need to advise the local environmental health officer (EHO) of the proposed installation.
British Standard (BS) 6644: 2005 + A1: 2008: Specification for the installation of gas fired hot water boilers of rated inputs between 70kW (net) and 1.8MW (net).
Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM)IGE/UP/10(Edition 4) Installation of flued gas appliances in industrial and commercial premises.
All flues are tested to BS EN1856-1:2009 and carry CE Mark certification to meet European regulations
Types of System Design available
Natural Draught
The flue system is designed to be either individual or into a combined header and riser for multiple boiler applications (subject to confirmation from appliance manufacturer) and designed to either a negative draught or positive pressure to operate in accordance with the requirements of the appliance installed.
Fan Assist
This type of flue system is utilised where a natural draught system is too large to fit within the space requirements and the system is designed to incorporate a fan to induce the necessary system performance.
The fan can be located either within the system itself or at the termination point.
Careful consideration is required to ensure excess draught does not impact appliance requirements and we can give full technical advice on possible solutions.
Fan Dilution
A fan dilution system is a cost-effective, tried and tested solution to the issue of unsightly and expensive chimneys that maybe a blight to a commercial buildings.
This arrangement of ducting incorporates a fan unit which mixes fresh air with the products of combustion, which then allows safe lower level disposal directly to the outside meeting the discharge requirements of the Clean Air Act for CO2 and IGE UP10 Edition 4 which states the following requirements:-
- CO2 max 1%
- CO max. 50 ppm
- NOX max. 5 ppm
All flue designs are carried out in line with all current standards.
